I must say that I was disappointed by one of my last polls that I had posted on my blog. The outcome however I knew from the start was going to be disappointing. In the poll I asked my voters to chose their favorite bow. As I suspected the crossbow failed to get a single vote. However to my small surprise the compound bow received one vote, this I attribute to Jay East. And to my disappointment but no surprise my recurved bow received only my own vote. The longbow had won even before I posted the poll. My brother Calvin is one of the biggest fans of the longbow that I know. And my sister also are wrapped up in the romantic history of the slick weapon. I must also admit that I am a fan of the longbow, but use the recurved as my weapon of choice. So by their three votes alone the longbow cruised to the easy win. Maybe next time.

Oops! Just realized you could vote for things on your blog...somehow I'd missed that before. I like the cross bow...Daddy had a modern one and he let me shoot it.
Hmmmm, I think that I voted compound bow....did you even have that on there? I can't remember.
I like the cross-bow, but I think that my favorite is the compound, and possibly the long bow.

Well, that is a surprise. I thought that one of my other friends who loves the compound bow had voted for it. The compound and cross bows are by far the easiest to learn. The mighty longbow being the hardest of them all. The recurved is right in the middle. However only three of those are apples with the crossbow being the orange of the group. It can not be compared to the others with out exceptions being taken, like for an example it does not even fire the same shaft as the other. The longbow, compound, and recurved can be compared to one another the best. The compound can out preform the other two in the long run, but in the end it comes down to what the person using the bow is looking for. The way I saw it was that if I was going to spend time and money on the sport I wanted to be good myself, not good because my bow made me good. But also me and my siblings were all interested in learning traditional archery, which was the main reason none of us picked the compound bow. The only thing I had left to decide was weather I wanted a longbow or the recurved bow. Recurved it was and I have never looked back. Though seeing the compound bow used by other people I am very impressed with the way modern technology has made the bow so much better then what it was before.

I do have a small cross-bow, but my mom won't let me shoot it! :P :)

I have yet to try the longbow, recurved bow and a real sized cross-bow.
I LOVE traditional archery, I've been wanting to do it for a long time, but, as you will see on my blog if you visit, my only choice was compound.
If you have any tips or suggestions on archery, I would be thankful if you could tell me some.

My anchoring is standing almost sideways, pulling the bow string all the way back to my jaw with just the three fingers holding the string, and, like you said, hooking my thumb under my jaw bone. This is very helpful, and I will try (just for the sake of it) the second method.
Do you own a bow? I'm hoping to get one for Christmas this year.
I would take lessons, but there isn't any places around here to do that!

Yes I own a recurved bow. 45 pound draw weight, 28 inch draw, it is about fifty years old. I bought it used. I will post a pic of it.
